About Christa Lei

Hi, I’m Christa!

A Little About Me…

I’m a twentysomething body and sex positive fat feminist living in the Mission District of San Francisco, by way of the Midwest, but born and raised in Hawaii. (I know, confusing– right?) I’m currently embarking on a wonderful (but long) journey that will hopefully end with me becoming a physician. I’m pretty passionate about affordable healthcare, stigma and discrimination in health care, public health, advocacy, global health and linking the gap between mental and physical health. When I’m not trying to fight the good fight or studying for my MCAT or my classes, I work part-time as a graduate teaching assistant, and the other time conducting clinical research at a local hospital. I have an unhealthy obsession with fashion and dyeing my crazy, curly hair in crazy colour combinations (right now, it’s a mixture of red, pink and fuschia.) I love music, but haven’t had the time to discover new artists– whenever I get some downtime, I like to play the guitar or ukulele, sing and write songs. My lazy vices include staying in all day, ordering food in, and watching You’re the Worst on repeat. I live with my wonderful Dutch boyfriend, and enjoy cooking and travelling with him whenever I have the chance. I’m pretty content with my life right now.

AND A LITTLE ABOUT THIS BLOG…

This blog serves as my outlet. That being said, I try to compile and craft essays ruminating over my personal and professional interests. Some may say that I should avoid being so outright about my mental and physical health issues because of medical school applications, but I find it better to be honest and fight stigma. Previously, I used to write essays about love and relationships, especially when I was single and navigating the treacherous waters of dating, but I’ve segued into more self-reflective essays on life, love, and everything in between. I don’t update this website very frequently, but when I do, it’s usually becuase I’ve learned a life lesson or what to share things about my life. And I’ll probably write about any or all of these things on my blog. I run this blog purely for myself (non-profit) and I do not run ads due to the fact that I believe writing should be free. smile If you’d like to work with me or have me write something for you, though, feel free to contact me and we can discuss.
